It’s Time To Give Ayew A Chance
The last time Jordan Ayew was in the Aston Villa starting eleven for a Premier League match Villa were sitting on three points. Fifty days, and five games later and Aston Villa have gained one more point since. Currently sitting 18th in the Premier League with four points, the West Midlands side are reeling and are in desperate need for a turnaround. That turnaround starts with Jordan Ayew.
The correlation between Jordan Ayew starting and Aston Villa achieving results isn’t as directly related as the statistical truth. To be honest, Ayew didn’t show anything of substance in the two starts that garnered 75% of Villa’s total points this year, however, that does not matter now. Aston Villa are in the desperate need for results and achieving the much-needed results comes down to attaining goals. Through seven games played, the Villans are averaging 1.14 goals a game, a number that is simply insufficient to win points. This is where Jordan Ayew comes in.
Despite the early impressions that has had Tim Sherwood turn against the idea of starting the Ghanaian striker, Ayew is a talented player and a prolific goalscorer, something that has been lost due to a slow start in the Premier League.
Jordan Ayew was brought in from Lorient with one thing in mind, to replace Christian Benteke’s countless amount of goals. Scoring 13 goals last year, Ayew was not only Lorient’s leading goalscorer but was also one of the highest scorers in Ligue 1.
Jordan Ayew needs some time, he’s not going to be a world-beater the second he steps on the pitch – especially not in the Premier League. Two starts and three overall appearances for Ayew is simply not enough time to dictate his future. He can provide something for Villa, as he showed in France and during the League Cup match versus Birmingham City. If Aston Villa want to get results in the Premier League, it starts with Tim Sherwood playing Jordan Ayew now.
