As many teams have proven over the years, gaining promotion back to the top-flight immediately after relegation is not easy, in fact, it seems more likely for teams to struggle to actually stay in the Championship!
Aston Villa will, obviously, want to get back into the Premier League at the first time of asking and they’ll need to make some additions to their squad in order to do so, especially as there’s a good chance that a fair few players will be heading for the exit at Villa Park.
Whilst fans would like to see major signings, there’s a lot to be said for taking hungry, young players on loan from Premier League sides.
These players often have huge potential and a lot of quality and their eagerness to impress their parent club can help the loan side dramatically.
We’ve taken a look at some youngsters who Villa should consider taking on loan this summer:
Dominic Solanke - Chelsea
Solanke is a striker who has spent this season with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, where he’s scored seven goals in 25 league games.
The 18-year-old has already broken into the England U21 squad and a season on loan in the Championship could be the next step before he looks to push for a place in Chelsea’s squad.
Sheyi Ojo - Liverpool
Sheyi Ojo is a hugely talented winger and has impressed for Liverpool this season.
If Jurgen Klopp makes additions to his squad, Ojo could be available and he’d be a great addition for Villa.
Manu Garcia - Manchester City
Manu Garcia is a highly gifted midfielder and is regarded as one of the best prospects at City’s academy.
A loan could do the 18-year-old the world of good as he needs to get used to the demands of English football.
Harry Winks - Tottenham Hotspur
Midfielder Harry Winks recently turned 20 and he needs more game time which he simply isn’t getting at Spurs.
His reading of the game and ability to win the ball back could be huge in the Championship.
Gedion Zelalem - Arsenal
American youth international Gedion Zelalem has spent the season on loan at Rangers and has been impressive.
He can play in centre midfield or wide-right and his range of passing is superb.
