Villa line up new board member
A man key to the sale of Aston Villa to Chinese businessman, Dr Tony Xia could be set for a role on the Villans’ board according to a report by Gregg Evans in the Birmingham Mail.
Evans says that Jamie Banfill was a key man in the sale being pushed through and that his links with the potential new chairman, Christopher Samuelson also leads to the belief that he could be set for a role.
Both Banfill and Samuelson are chairmen of a Swiss based business called Socfin Group which helps potential buyers of football clubs complete deals and also carry out due diligence on the club in question for the new owner.
It is said that Banfill already has links to Birmingham through his family, but is currently based in the USA.
The report states that Banfill, Samuelson and Keith Wyness will all be part of the new look board at Villa Park, therefore suggesting that current chairman Steve Hollis will leave the Midlands club after six months.
Does Banfill worry you? – Matt Lynch
The move for Samuelson has worried a few fans with his links to previous money laundering scandals. Despite links to them he has never been charged for any involvement so there is legitimately nothing in claims he has done nothing wrong.
Meanwhile, nobody quite knows who Banfill is. Let us know in the poll below what you think of the idea of Banfill being on the board.
