Xia has no worries about passing Director’s Test
Incoming Aston Villa owner Tony Xia says there is no reason why he would fail the Football League’s Director’s Test, which is the safety net the league put in place to prevent people with major character concerns from purchasing clubs.
It was reported a few days ago that there were concerns about Xia’s takeover of Villa after it was suggested that Recon Group, the company owned by Xia, may not have the finances and clean background record required to take over an English club.
However, Xia, speaking to Neil Connor of The Telegraph, said he has nothing to worry about and that he can’t think of any reason why he’d fail the test.
He said:
I think there is no way, and not any excuse, that they should turn me down because I am a person who is doing everything legally. I am enthusiastic for the club and I will devote myself to it and I am responsible to take it over. There is no reason they will disapprove of that.
Villa fans will be cautiously optimistic about the club’s potential new takeover. They’ve been through this before when Randy Learner took over at the club, but his reign ended with relegation after starting extremely well.
