Villa defender wanted by Greek club
Aston Villa defender Jose Angel Crespo is a transfer target for Greek side PAOK, according to Gregg Evans of The Birmingham Mail.
The 29-year-old arrived at Villa Park last summer for a fee of around £500,000 but only managed to make one first team appearance when he played in the 1-0 loss at home to Stoke City.
In January, the Spaniard was allowed to return to his homeland on loan as he joined Rayo Vallecano.
It looks like new boss Roberto Di Matteo is happy to let Crespo leave this summer and he’s apparently caught the eye of clubs from Italy and Spain as well as the Greek side.
The former Spanish U21 international is just another example of the poor planning and recruitment policy that was partly to blame for Villa’s relegation.
To bring a player in, give him one game and then realise you need to ship him out doesn’t look great and the new Villa regime will be hoping to avoid similar mistakes.
