Di Matteo: We lost our confidence once we conceded
Roberto Di Matteo was left to explain his third defeat as Villa manager, after his side collapsed to a 3-1 defeat at Bristol City despite initially taking the lead at Ashton Gate.
Villa headed into the game on the back of a three game unbeaten run and took the lead through Jack Grealish in the first-half.
However, the second half saw Villa collapse as they did against Luton, as Bristol City took advantage of Villa’s defensive frailties and scored three goals in quick succession to secure a deserved victory.
After seeing his side concede three goals for the second time this season, Di Matteo said:
For 60 minutes we were very much in control and you expect the opposition to put you under pressure within the 90 minutes at some point.
Once we conceded the first goal we lost our confidence and stopped playing.
We lost our organisation a little bit and we weren’t a team.
Di Matteo also had his say on the hostile reception he received from a number of Villa fans at full time.
We can’t expect anything else if we lose games.
Also conceding three goals in half an hour is not what I have seen from this team in the previous matches.
With Villa next in action against Nottingham Forest in two weeks time, Di Matteo must use the next two weeks to add another defender to his squad and continue to shift the deadwood out of the club.
