Kevin MacDonald’s Aston Villa U23 side beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Villa Park to round off their home schedule in the Premier League 2 season in style.
Jerell Sellars and Keinan Davis got the goals to secure victory for the young Villans.
Here are our Villa player ratings from the game:
Viktor Johansson - 6
Made the saves expected of him and looked fairly untroubled.
Mitchell Clark - 7
The youngster looked like he belonged at this level despite being just 18. Looked cool and calm and did his job with little fuss.
Easah Suliman - 8
Suliman was superb all game and helped repel the Brighton attacks in a controlled manner. Came close to scoring but Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton made a good save.
Jacob Bedeau - 8
The 17-year-old was equally good as his partner. He did his job so well and hardly looked like breaking a sweat.
Tom Leggett - 7
Showed his versatility by slotting in at left-back and he didn’t look out of place. He defended well and was comfortable with the ball when further up the pitch.
Corey Blackett-Taylor - 6
Looked decent in the first half but faded a bit in the second. Put the work in but didn’t really stand out.
Rory Hale - 8
His set-piece delivery was genuinely outsetending and his passing was on point too. Great game by Hale.
Jake Doyle-Hayes - 6
Another youngster who didn’t look overawed. He kept things nice and simple with his neat passing.
Jack Clarke - 5
Pretty quiet game from Clarke. Wasn’t a huge shock to see him taken off.
Keinan Davis - 9
The best player on the pitch. Made one goal, scored another moments later and was a constant threat.
Jerell Sellars - 8
Was simply too quick and too good for Brighton, they didn’t get near him. Took his goal really well.
(Sub) Callum O’Hare - 6
Apparently missed the start of the game due to traffic! Got about 30 minutes under his belt and looked good but he probably should have scored.
