Aston Villa weighing up a second move for Anton Donkor
Steve Bruce is looking to add a number of players to his first-team squad in the summer to get Aston Villa into fighting shape to compete for a promotion place next season but reportedly has his eyes on a developmental signing.
The Birmingham Mail state that Villa will weigh up a second move for the winger if Everton decide not to sign him.
Villa made an approach to sign the young winger on loan during the January transfer window but he opted to complete a loan move to Everton where he spent the majority of his time with the U23s.
Donkor suffered an unfortunate ankle injury early into his loan spell which ended his season and Everton U23 coach David Unsworth has said the club are yet to decide whether or not to make a move for him again this summer.
“Scans told us that he didn’t require an operation but he is being rehabilitated back in Germany so we’ll pick that one back up again in the summer and see what we can do.”
The loan deal for Wolfsburg’s Germany U20 international included a £1.5m option to make the move permanent, but Everton aren’t willing to activate that option having seen very little of him in action.
Villa are ready to reignite their interest in the 19-year-old should he become available again.
