Aston Villa suffered an early blow to their pre-season plans as Nathan Baker and Albert Adomah picked up injuries in their pre-season friendly against Telford United at the New Bucks Head Stadium tonight.

The Ghanaian was the first to go off after he had a heavy collision with a Telford defender as he attempted to take the ball up the field. The former Middlesbrough man tried to soldier on, but was clearly struggling, and he was taken off by Steve Bruce just before the half hour mark.

Just minutes later, Baker, who was a regular in Villa’s defence last season alongside Chester, had to leave the field after he appeared to pick up a muscular injury – although nothing has been confirmed at this early stage.

There were no other injuries in the game which Villa went on to win 4-0 with goals from Green, Lansbury (2), and Agbonlahor. Elsewhere, Villa were also playing Kidderminster Harriers and they had a relatively comfortable night with a 3-0 win, thanks to goals from Hourihane, Chester, and McKirdy. More importantly, there were no injuries in this game.

Villa’s next pre-season match is against Shrewsbury on Saturday afternoon (3 pm).
