According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Liverpool are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi.

The French international was close to joining Sevilla last week for £8 million, but the deal fell through as he supposedly failed a medical with the La Liga side. Villa state that this was not true, and are furious with the way that the deal broke down.

However, despite this supposed lack of fitness, Amavi played the full 90 minutes of Villa’s 4-0 win over Telford United, and got some more playing time in Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Shrewsbury.

Now, Liverpool are supposedly ready to take a punt on the left-back, but only if they can take him on loan for one season, before signing him permanently next summer. The reason for this is that they are keen to see how his knee holds up after he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament back in 2015.

Klopp is desperate to find himself a new left-back, after he had to play Milner in this position last season. Amavi has been linked with Liverpool before, and would welcome the move after seeing his chances of playing Champions League football with Sevilla dashed.
