Veretout misses St Etienne medical as he looks set for Italy
According to Birmingham Mail, Jordan Veretout’s transfer to Saint Etienne has fallen through amid Fiorentina interest.
Veretout was set for a medical at St Etienne on Thursday but he did not turn up because of interest shown by Fiorentina in Italy.
The Frenchman was on loan at St Etienne last season and it was reported that Villa agreed a deal with the French side for them to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis.
However, Fiorentina are now set to hijack the move and bid €7 million for the midfielder which would be hard for Villa to reject as he hasn’t performed well since joining in 2015.
Veretout has been playing in Villa’s pre-season games against Telford and Shrewsbury but selling him will bring in valuable funds following the arrivals of new signings of John Terry, Sam Johnstone, Ahmed Elmohamady and Glenn Whelan this summer.
