Aston Villa are set to lose right-back Leandro Bacuna to fellow Championship club Reading as the two clubs continue to negotiate a deal for the transfer of the Dutch international, according to a report on the Birmingham Mail.

Bacuna was left out of the Villa squad by manager Steve Bruce for their Carabao Cup clash with Colchester United which they won.

The talks between the two clubs are said to be advancing steadily, with both parties open to the move.

The player himself is keen for a new challenge and will not be included in Villa’s squad this weekend for their fixture against Cardiff City in the league.

Bruce expects the move to be completed soon and said: “He won’t be involved for the weekend. I believe we’re close but in all of these things negotiations seems to take forever and ever at the moment.

I would think there’s a deal to be done and for both parties, it’s the right sort of deal.

Bacuna has been used somewhat as a back-up option for the past season and has had to fill in for other players in different positions.

However, the Dutchman wants to hold down a regular place in the squad which he feels he can do at Reading.
