Aston Villa made it 2 defeats, 2 draws, and 1 win from their opening five games as they had to settle for a point at Ashton Gate against Bristol City on Friday evening.

Villa got off to a bright start and Green forced a fine save out of Bristol’s goalkeeper in the fifth minute after some good hold up play by Keinan Davis.

However, Bristol started to dominate the game and Villa found themselves on the back foot for the next 20 minutes. Bristol were getting a lot of joy down the flanks, so Bruce decided to change to a back four.

This seemed to work as Villa got back into the game, but neither team could break the deadlock, and the two teams went in all square at the break.

Bristol had more of the ball at the start of the second half, but they weren’t troubling the away side. However, in the 60th minute, Terry gave away a needless free kick on the edge of the box. After the ball pinged about for an age, it fell to Paterson who swept home.

Bristol weren’t ahead for long 4 minutes later, the ball came to Onomah 25 yards out, and his fierce shot took a deflection that helped it loop over Fielding’s head and into the net.

Both teams started to push for a winner, but neither could find one, so they both had to settle for a share of the spoils.
