The midfielder was given his marching orders for a mistimed tackle on Marvin Johnson, which sparked much controversy. This prompted Villa to appeal against Lansbury’s red card, judging it to have been harsh, and the punishment has now been overturned.
Villa boss Steve Bruce also commented on the incident after his side’s draw with Derby, and was adamant that the red card was too harsh a punishment.
As quoted by the Birmingham Mail, Bruce said:
The referee has done his best to level it up. I thought the decision on Lansbury – it’s a silly challenge – is a yellow. There’s no need for the referee to give a red card because I didn’t think it was one.
Lansbury was due to miss three matches, two in the league sandwiching a Carabao Cup clash, but it looks like he will now be available for selection, and will be in contention for the upcoming fixtures.
