Aston Villa have confirmed that Ross McCormack will join Australian side Melbourne City on loan, subject to a medical.

McCormack joins the Australian side who were in the market for reinforcement after an injury to key player Bruno Fornaroli.

The Scottish striker is due to arrive in Australia on Monday. Melbourne City are currently managed by former Wigan manager and Manchester United coach Warren Joyce.

McCormack fell out of favour at Aston Villa after a disagreement with manager Steve Bruce last season.

The striker spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest but could not complete a move away from Villa Park over the summer.

Sunderland were heavily linked with a loan move for McCormack, but they were unable to agree a deal with Villa for the player.
