Aston Villa are wanting to sign Championship top scorer Leon Clarke in January as they look to buy a new striker.

The 32-year-old Sheffield United striker has scored 13 goals in 16 games this season for Chris Wilder’s side and that tally includes 9 goals in just his last 4 matches. He has been key to their promotion push this season after helping the side into the Championship from League 1 last term.
Steve Bruce is in need of a new striker after losing last season’s top scorer Jonathan Kodjia to an ankle injury which he picked up on international duty and could see him miss the rest of the season. This is another blow for the Ivory Coast international who broke his ankle last April and has subsequently been limited to eight appearances this season.
The Villans’ boss sees the experienced Clarke as a potential difference maker as he moves to boost his striking options in a bid to gain promotion back to the Premier League.
Sheffield United will most likely resist any move from a promotion chasing rival but with Clarke also entering the final 18 months of his Blades contract, Villa may be able to coax the player away from Bramall Lane.
