Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has revealed once again that the Championship club will try their “best” to sign on-loan goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a permanent basis from Premier League side Manchester United, according to a report on the Express.
Villa boss Steve Bruce is a huge admirer of Johnstone and has revealed that the club will do everything they can to sign the shot-stopper on a permanent basis.
I think you know the way I feel about Sam. He’s come on leaps and bounds since he’s been here.
He’s a very, very good young goalkeeper and we’ll do our best to keep him.
Bruce believes that Johnstone is better off moving to Villa permanently so he can focus on his career and try to help Villa achieve success in the next couple of years.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper has also had loan spells at Preston North End and Oldham Athletic but he is keen to settle at one club instead of changing nearly every season.
Bruce already said he wants Johnstone earlier in the season but it seemed that United would offer him a new contract to ensure that doesn’t leave on a free transfer, as his current deal expires in the summer.
Johnstone has become a fan favourite at Villa Park and even Prince William has also asked Bruce to ensure that he signs permanently.
