Aston Villa put in another poor performance to succumb to a 2-0 defeat to promotion rivals Derby at Pride Park.

Derby got off to a stronger start and David Nugent had three decent chances to score in the first twenty minutes, but, luckily for Villa, he didn’t have his shooting boots on and he failed to put away at least one of the chances.

The home side didn’t have to wait much longer before they took the lead. The ball fell to Whelan near the middle of the park in the 24th minute, and he decided that now was the time to play one of the worst back passes that you’re likely to see all season.

The ball fell to Vydra, who was coming back from an offside position, and he slid the ball across the box for ex-Villa player Weimann to slam home.

After the break, Villa pushed for the equalizer, but they struggled to create any meaningful chances, and Derby put the game to bed in the 91st minute when Johnny Russell poked home after a nice ball by Richard Keogh.

This defeat leaves Villa without a win in three matches and they are now just one point above Leeds in 7th.
