Millwall contact Aston Villa to loan defender Tommy Elphick
Championship side Millwall have contacted Aston Villa over a possible loan deal for out-of-favour defender Tommy Elphick, according to a report on the Birmingham Mail.
Elphick has found himself on the fringes of the first team at Villa Park and has only managed to make six appearances for the club in all competitions so far this season.
The centre-back is keen to get more game time and Millwall are eager to offer him that for the remainder of the season.
Villa manager Steve Bruce is considering allowing Elphick to leave and confirms that he will ponder over it in the coming days.
Bruce said:
I’m mindful of the fact a good pro like Tommy wants to play, so we’ll see.
The centre-back was close to completing a move away from Villa last summer but it didn’t work out and Bruce believes that he could still have a vital part to play for the side.
The return of John Terry from injury will be positive news for Millwall, as it means that Elphick is likely to drop back out of the side, giving them more of a chance to secure his signature this month.
The ex-Bournemouth captain would be a welcome addition to the Millwall squad, who are fighting to survive relegation this season.
