Aston Villa brought league leaders Wolves crashing back down to earth thanks to a thumping 4-1 victory at Villa Park.

Villa got off to an extremely bright start and took an early lead when Wolves failed to deal with a Robert Snodgrass corner and the ball fell perfectly for Albert Adomah to slide it in from a yard out – his 14th goal of the season.

Wolves grew into the game a bit and they equalized in the 20th minute when Diogo Jota bundled in Matt Doherty’s low cross.

At the start of the second-half, it looked like the game could go either way, but it was Villa who re-took the lead in the 57th minute when James Chester turned home another brilliant delivery by Snodgrass.

Five minutes later, Villa doubled their lead when Lewis Grabban poked home a cross by Adomah for his fourth goal in as many games. It got even better for the home fans when Birkir Bjarnason, in the 85th minute, strolled past three players and toe-poked the ball home from 18 yards.

This massive win leaves Villa just seven points behind Wolves and four points behind Cardiff.
