Former Aston Villa assistant manager Ray Wilkins has passed away aged 61, after being admitted to St George’s Hospital, as per The Guardian.
Wilkins will be best known for being a player, enjoying a great playing career spanning 24 years playing for such clubs as Chelsea, Manchester United, Rangers, Paris Saint-Germain, Queens Park Rangers, etc.
As a manager, he mainly stayed in West London, taking the hot seat at Fulham as well as his former clubs Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea, where he was assistant and caretaker manager on numerous occasions. He also managed the Jordan National Team for a few months.
However, his last role in football was assistant manager to Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa.

He was at Villa Park for a very short time, being hired in June 2015 to prepare for the 2015/16 season as part of Tim Sherwood’s backroom staff. However, he was sacked along with Sherwood and everyone else on the coaching team in October that year, as Villa went on to be relegated for the first time since 1987.
Wilkins suffered a cardiac arrest before Easter weekend and was admitted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting in South West London, and tragically died on April 4th. He will be missed immensely.
