Aston Villa picked up a very easy three points on Tuesday evening when they brushed Reading aside 3-0 at Villa Park.
Villa dominated from the start, but Reading’s defense was resolute (and somewhat lucky) and they somehow managed to go in at the break all square. However, the deadlock was broken just two minutes into the second-half when Bjarnason, who was the best player on the pitch, fired home from 25 yards.
Villa added two more goals through Hourihane and Hogan, and were unfortunate not to add a couple more to the score.
This win left Villa in 4th place in the table, 7 points behind Cardiff in second, and 11 points above Bristol in 7th. While automatic qualification might not be realistic, it might be safe to assume they have guaranteed themselves at least a play-off position. It would take a catastrophic run of results to see them drop out of the top 6.
Next up for Villa is an away match against Norwich. The Canaries, who sit 13 points outside a play-off place, have little to play for, so Villa fans will be hoping that their minds are on the beach and that it’s another easy three points to Villa.
