Aston Villa were denied a valuable point against Liverpool on Saturday thanks to a late Sadio Mane goal.
Villa, with 88 minutes on the clock, probably thought that they had all three points in the bag, but Andy Robertson popped up with a late equaliser.
Smith would have settled for a point, but Mane headed home with virtually the last touch of the match.
Despite yet another late loss, there were a lot of positives that they can take into their next game against Wolves on Sunday.
Villa recently knocked Wolves out of the Carabao Cup to set up a quarter-final match against Liverpool in December.
Here is our predicted Villa XI for Sunday’s match against Wolves.
GK: Tom Heaton
Heaton is Villa’s first choice keeper in the Premier League so will definitely be starting.
RB: Frederic Guilbert
Guilbert is Villa’s best right-back, so we expect him to start.
CB: Tyrone Mings
Mings was great against Liverpool and Smith won’t leave him out unless he is forced to.
CB: Bjorn Engels
Engels has formed a great partnership with Mings that Smith won’t want to break up.
LB: Matt Targett
As the club’s best left-back, Targett will be starting.
RM: Trezeguet
Trezeguet was great against Liverpool, so we see him getting another start on Sunday.
CDM: Marvelous Nakamba
Nakamba has shown how talented he is and will occupy the CDM role all season.
CM: John McGinn
Villa fans have run out of superlatives to describe McGinn. A player of his quality will definitely be starting on Sunday.
CM: Conor Hourihane
Grealish should be fit to play, but we think Smith will continue to play him on the wing. Therefore, we expect Hourihane to play.
LM: Jack Grealish
Villa’s best player should be fit and we expect to see him start on the wing again.
ST: Wesley Moraes
Wesley gets a lot of stick, but there’s really nobody to start instead.
