Aston Villa host Everton in the Premier League at Villa Park on Thursday, May 13 and could complete the double over their opponents if they pick up all three points.

The Villans beat Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park on May 1 and are sure to get a response from the Toffees this time round, but Dean Smith’s men could end a 20-year wait to take maximum points off Everton if his side can deliver.

The last time Villa did the double was all the way back in 2001. They beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison on November 5, 2000 thanks to a late Paul Merson winner, and beat them 2-1 at Villa Park on April 14, 2001, courtesy of goals from Dion Dublin and Ian Taylor.

Villa are currently 11th in the league and two points adrift of 10th-placed Leeds United, so a win over Everton would see them move into the top-half of the table.

Everton have done the league double over Villa twice in the last eight years. They beat Villa 2-0 at Villa Park on October 26, 2013 and beat them 2-1 at Goodison Park on February 1, 2014 to secure maximum points in 2013/14. Then they thrashed Villa 4-0 at Goodison on November 21, 2015 and won 3-1 at Villa Park on March 1, 2016 to secure maximum points in 2015/16.
