# Villa to lose Vlaar

Ron Vlaar has been the brunt of heavy speculation since being put up for release, despite Villa offering him a new contract, but now it is understood that Southampton are now interested in the departing Villa centre back – According to ClubCall.

The former Villa captain has spoke out after it was announced by Aston Villa he was offered a new contract that he can play at a higher level, which sparked outrage from fans of his disrespect for the club.

Turkish side Besiktas are also interested in Vlaar, but the Dutch defender negotiated himself out of a deal by asking for a large signing on fee, according to reports.

The deal is expected to be a reaction to Toby Alderweireld edging closer to joining Tottenham, which sees the demand for a defender in the short term to partner Jose Fonte a Southampton.

Meanwhile it seems like Tim Sherwood anticipated the defender going his separate ways, with the signing of Micah Richards, expected to adapt to centre back.
