# Tonev Departs For The Serie A

[Serie A side, Frosinone Calcio have confirmed on their official website](https://www.frosinonecalcio.com/tonev-al-frosinone/) the signing of Aston Villa outcast, Aleksander Tonev.

Tonev joined Villa in 2013 after a recommendation from ex-Villan Stiliyan Petrov. Upon arrival to Villa Park, Tonev was described by Petrov as an ‘exciting’ prospect and that Villa fans would see a ‘good player’ suggesting he would make a real impact on the team. In reality, Tonev made 17 appearances in his debut season before not featuring again in a Claret and Blue shirt.

The Bulgarian winger quickly fell out of favour during his debut season at B6 after a string of poor performances – with particular note taken to his wayward shooting by the Villa faithful.

Last season, Tonev was sent out on loan to Celtic where he only featured seven times. The loan spell was clouded in controversy after Tonev was suspended for seven games after using “abusive language of a racist nature” to the Aberdeen defender, Shay Logan.
