# Player of the Month – August

After a £6-million move from Ligue 1 in the summer, Idrissa Gueye has slotted into the midfield perfectly alongside Mr Consistent – Ashley Westwood.

[As mentioned in an earlier piece, stats do not lie.](https://readastonvilla.com/2015/09/02/villans-new-signings-best-august/) Idrissa Gueye has been judged to be one of the best Premier League newcomers in August with a pass completion rate of 84% and an average of over 50 passes a game, according to [WhoScored.com](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/80464)

In an age where big Premier League teams come round and lure away top Villa players, he looks like the perfect signing to replace Fabian Delph while also giving Villa a solid shape on the transition, something Delph never really grasped due to his high-energy approach to the game.

Special mentions obviously go to Ashley Westwood, who has been superb in midfield under Sherwood, adding strength to his game and bravery – not being bullied off the ball like he was so often under Paul Lambert.

Jordan Amavi is another that came close to the award, but for his questionable individual error against Crystal Palace.
