# Fox phoned Wenger for lowdown on Remi Garde

With the search for a new manager in full swing, Villa chief executive Tom Fox is rumoured to have contacted his old colleague Arsene Wenger in order to find out everything he can about potential managerial candidate Remi Garde.

[According to the Birmingham Mail, respected French football journalist Julien Laurens is quoted as telling BT Sport:](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/remi-garde-latest-tom-fox-10330086)

“He speaks perfect English from his time at Arsenal. I think Tom Fox, the CEO at Aston Villa, used to be at Arsenal, picked up the phone to call Arsene Wenger and know what Arsene thinks of Garde and he really likes Remi Garde as a manager.”

“For me he ticks all the right boxes, he’s got great ideas, good tactical knowledge.”

He also commented on Garde’s ability to bring through youth players, as well as work with little to no money in the transfer market, something which is likely to happen if he does become Aston Villa manager.

“He’s very good with youth. That was the time at Lyon they had no money at all to spend, he had to sell his best players every summer to get the money in and he basically played with a lot of kids from the academy.”

What is clear is that Fox, appointing his second manager in 2015, will need to act quickly to get a new manager in, with Villa desperately needing to pick up points after dropping to the bottom of the Premier League table following Sunderland’s victory over Newcastle on Sunday.

If Garde is appointed, he will need to hit the ground running quickly in order to save the sinking ship that is Aston Villa football club.
