# Villa Monitor Ex-England U21 international

Aston Villa are to go toe-to-toe with Premier League counterparts to land the signature of Sheffield Wednesday’s £7-million rated centre-half, Tom Lees. [Bill Cooper from the Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-norwich-eye-transfer-tom-6807265) reports that the former-England U21 international is a target for Newcastle United, Norwich City, and Sunderland as well as Aston Villa.

Lees came through the Leeds United academy system making 123 appearances for the senior side before moving to Hillsborough last summer. Since moving to Wednesday, he has become a vital pivot in Carlos Carvalhal’s side as he looks to steer the Championship side to the Premier League.

The defender only cost The Owls £450,000 so could represent healthy profit if they were to part with their star defender in Janauary.

### Leaky Defences Need Fixing

Aston Villa currently sit bottom of the Premier League, but on paper their defence is not that bad. With the likes of Micah Richards and Joleon Lescott in the side you wouldn’t expect The Villans to be linked with another centre-back, but still it is a welcome link with something clearly not right at Villa Park.
