# Loanee Ilori to be given Anfield lifeline

Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori, currently on loan to Aston Villa, is hopeful that he will be handed a lifeline at Anfield after a dreadful spell at The Villans so far with [James Pearce from the Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/tiago-ilori-could-handed-liverpool-6807076) reporting.

The 22-year-old’s start to life Villa Park was hampered by an ankle injury that has prevented him from making a single competitive appearance for the club, and making just one appearance for the Aston Villa Under-21’s side.

If Aston Villa want to keep Ilori past his set season long loan spell at the club, it will cost them a hefty price of what is rumoured to be between £6-million to £9-million, on top of the £1-million loan fee that Villa had to pay to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

However, after being completely restricted for game time under previous manager, Tim Sherwood, it will be an uphill battle for the Portuguese centre-back to break into new manager Remi Garde’s plans ahead of his spell at the club, which began with a 0-0 draw against league leaders Manchester City on Sunday.

If Ilori is to return to Liverpool, there is a huge chance that Klopp will deem him surplus to requirements and will look to offload the once-promising centre-half. Liverpool already have plenty of centre-back options, including Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Emre Can and Mamadou Sakho who has however been ruled out for up to eight weeks with a knee injury.

Ilori is yet to even make a competitive appearance in English football.
