# Villa want Belgian International striker… it isn’t Benteke

Aston Villa are keeping tabs on a Belgian international striker who goes by the name of, Laurent Depoitre.

[Gregg Evans from the Birmingham Mail](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-laurent-depoitre-gent-10606487) reports that The Villans scout team were in Belgium to watch the 27-year old score in a 2-1 win for his current side, Gent against Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League.

Depoitre has found the net seven times so far this season and played a key role in Gent’s first ever Belgian title win last season where he scored 13 times in the Belgian Jupiler league.

### The right links or not? – Matt Lynch

The link for Depoitre is one that may not excite Villa fans or give them any sort of encouragement going into the second half of the season in a few weeks, but the Belgian has only played in the top division in Belgium for two years and already garnered a reputation for his strong hold-up play – he could be the perfect partner up front for Jordan Ayew.
