# Real Betis linked with Villa winger

Real Betis are eyeing a January move for Aston Villa’s Carles Gil in the January transfer window, according to [Diario AS](https://as.com/diarioas/2015/12/21/english/1450723091_736194.html).

The former Spanish youth international has seen his playing time at Villa restricted since joining the club in January of last year for approximately £3.2m. Since then, Gil has featured for three different managers—Paul Lambert, Tim Sherwood, and Remi Garde—and has 2 goals and 1 assist in 19 appearances.

Previous to joining Aston Villa, Gil came through Valencia’s youth system. He was loaned to Elche for the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons, where he helped promote the club back to La Liga. He then returned to Valencia until being sold.

Although Gil has predominantly played on the right wing for Villa, he can also play on the left wing and through the middle behind the striker. It is believed that he will mostly feature on the left for Pepe Mel as he looks to avoid relegation.

11th placed Betis would initially try to get Gil on loan with an option to buy after the end of the season.
