# Lescott winner shows Premier League class – Garde

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has claimed that Joleon Lescott’s winning goal against Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening was a show of his Premier League credentials as opposed to a statement that silences his critics as of late. The experienced English defender scored an absolutely crucial goal in Villa’s season as they managed to bag their second three points of the season against high-flying Crystal Palace in a 1-0 victory at Villa Park.

> I’m pleased with the way he gave an answer tonight, but not regarding that. He is a very important player for the team and tonight he gave the right answer.

Lescott has been widely criticised in the recent days since Villa’s underwhelming 1-1 FA Cup third round draw with League Two outfit Wycombe Wanderers. The 33-year-old was pictured to be arguing with a host of supporters regarding the team’s recent performances, but has since redeemed himself with Villa’s most important goal of the season to date.

However, with Villa still firmly rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, boss Garde was keen to turn the focus away from the events at Wycombe to Villa’s vital victory against the Eagles.

> He’s a very experienced player; the kind of player who has spread around him serenity and calm.

The 33-year-old will be hoping to provide more game-changing moments for his side as they look to mount a fight for survival in the second half of the season.
