Who should go and stay? – Part 1

With the situation Aston Villa have been stuck in all season, the only positive now for most Villa fans is the thought of next season. Yes, Villa are most likely to be starting next season in the Championship, but it has been coming for three or four seasons now, and maybe this is the chance Villa need to rebuild and come back into the Premier League stronger.
With the thought of next season already commencing, I decide out of this season’s performers who I think should stay and be apart of the revival mission, and who should move on from Villa Park.
Brad Guzan
American goalkeeper, Brad Guzan, has made some horrendous errors this season, which Villa fans don’t seem to be forgetting anytime soon.
Guzan has played a major role in Villa’s previous seasons in the relegation battle, but I think it is about time Guzan moves on, and Villa recruit a more consistent performer in goal.
Mark Bunn
Since the New Year, Mark Bunn has replaced Brad Guzan for the number one spot and has made some decent performances.
However, in my opinion, he is a reliable player to cover for a first-team goalkeeper, but whether he could step-up and be Villa’s number one has yet to been answered.
To conclude, I would keep the ex-Norwich keeper for next season and at the least, he should be involved in the squad to cover for the first-team goalkeeper I am expecting to join for next season.
Leandro Bacuna
Bacuna has been a versatile player in Villa’s squad this season, playing full-back to the centre of the midfield, but his versatility means nothing if his performances aren’t Premier League standard.
This season, he has been one of the few who have stood out for such poor, consistent performances, but yet, somehow he remains on the team sheet.
The Dutch international should be sold in the summer, as I can’t see him stepping up and producing the right performances in the Championship either.
Alan Hutton
Villa’s right-back Alan Hutton has been in and out of the first eleven all season, but except his storming runs down the wing and the odd crunching tackle, the Scotsman doesn’t give much else to his side.
Even then, Hutton’s end product is usually poor, and the crunching tackles normally result in a yellow card too. Hutton would be in one of the number of players who should pack their bags at the end of the season.
Jores Okore
The Danish defender has been one of Villa’s most reliable defenders this season, and hopefully, Remi Garde can keep hold of him for next season because if the Frenchman can, Okore could be Villa’s main man in the heart of the defence in the future.
I feel it will be tough for Villa to hang onto the 23-year-old centre-half, as although he hasn’t played to the best of his abilities this season, I think that’s because he has been in a poor side.
Ciaran Clark
Since his time at Villa, he has been given a number of opportunities to flourish and break into the side, but the Irishman has never seemed to impress me, and as this summer is more crucial than ever to rebuild the squad, I would sell Clark and use the money from the sale to bring in someone new in defence.
Micah Richards
Micah Richards has been one of the few leaders this season and has gained a lot of respect for that, from many Villa fans.
Not only his leadership, but his strength and determination at the back has been crucial compared to others who have given little effort at times this season.
Richards has made some mistakes this season, but he is a leader which Villa have to keep for next season, as his organisation and experience will be crucial in the Championship.
Joleon Lescott
The experienced 33-year-old has to be the most disliked player in the side right now for his actions off the pitch, but even on the pitch, it hasn’t been much better.
Numerous mistakes and his agonising slow pace does question if he has passed his sell-by-date. His experience wouldn’t even keep him in the squad for next season, Lescott is another defender who I would gladly see the back of.
Kieran Richardson
Similar to Lescott, I have never understood why Villa decided to sign this left-back, because, like Lescott, Richardson also seems like he can’t handle the Premier League pace.
Richardson has been a squad player since his move to Villa and hasn’t been able to fill the left-back problem Villa have attempted to solve for seasons now. I expect Villa to make the right move and let his contract run out in the summer.
Jordan Amavi
Amavi may have only joined the Villans in the summer, but the Villa faithful have already become a big fan of the left-back over the first 10 games he has made this season.
Unfortunately, Amavi picked up an injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season when he was on international duty for France under-21’s, and has been largely missed since the horrific injury.
Hopefully, Amavi will return for pre-season, and be ready to start for next season, because if the 21-year-old can play like he did before his injury, he will be a key player for Villa’s campaign.
Aly Cissokho
I think it’s fair to say that the only full-back that in my eyes has shown they are good enough to play for Aston Villa, is Jordan Amavi, because since the return of Aly Cissokho in January, Cissokho has made no impact Aston Villa’s performances, and needs to be replaced for next season.
However, hopefully attacking full-back Jordan Amavi will have recovered by next season to play for the Villans again.
