Speaking about the decision to suspend Agbonlahor in his [pre-match press conference](https://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~5461862,00.html), caretaker manager Eric Black said:

> There is an ongoing investigation which will run its course. I have spoken to David Bernstein at length. That is underway. I can’t give any more information on that.
>
> I want to focus on football so I have removed Gabby from the squad for Saturday. I think it’s doesn’t need to be about Gabby Agbonlahor. It needs to be about the 18 players representing Aston Villa on Saturday.

Agbonlahor made his debut for Villa in 2006 and has been an ever-present since then, but in recent times has faced criticism for his performances, with Agbonlahor having failed to register a goal between March 2015 and February 2016.

It is the first time Agbonlahor has been suspended by Aston Villa and it remains to be seen when he will return to first-team action.
