Eric Black insists his Villa side can surprise Manchester United at Old Trafford, despite the odds being firmly stacked against Villa as Black’s side aim to avoid a ninth straight defeat.
Villa’s awful form has continued under Eric Black, with the caretaker manager having overseen two defeats in two games since he stepped in to replace Remi Garde at the end of March.
However, despite Villa’s relegation to the Championship set to be confirmed on Saturday, Black was keen to stress that his side can pull off a suprise at Old Trafford, despite not having beaten Manchester United away since 2009.
Black, speaking in his pre-match press conference, said:
They have a lot of good players and it’s a huge, huge task for us on Saturday.
But I have to be honest – watching our players out there in training – I am relishing it.
I am looking forward to getting there. Let’s surprise a few people.
In the last 10 days the lads have been very good. They have applied themselves in training. I couldn’t fault them.
He also spoke about the opposition manager, Louis Van Gaal, and his admiration for the Dutchman, despite Van Gaal struggling this season.
He has huge stature in the game.
I don’t think Louis van Gaal needs to prove to anybody that he knows football inside-out.
He’s an exceptional tactician. He’s been an exceptional coach throughout his career. He has had an unbelievably successful career.
Do you agree with Black’s thoughts on the game or will Villa fall to a ninth strength defeat and have relegation to the Championship confirmed?
