# Villa players to face pay cut following relegation

Aston Villa players are facing pay cuts of up to 50%, with Villa set to compete in the Championship next season after being relegated on Saturday against Manchester United.

The [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3547698/Aston-Villa-players-whopping-50-cent-pay-drop-Premier-League-relegation-stay-club.html) reports that a majority of the squad, including those who were purchased in the summer, have clauses in their contracts which stipulate that their wages will drop by up to 50% as Villa attempt to get costs under control.

With Villa’s latest financial results for the 2014-2015 season showing a £27 million loss, along with a significant increase in wages, it will be hoped that this is the first step in controlling the wage bill at Villa Park.

Chairman Steve Hollis will hope that the drop in wages, along with the 500 job losses [Villa are set to announce](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/revealed-aston-villa-axe-staggering-11210956), will be enough to put Villa on a better financial footing in the Championship, with Villa set to miss out on millions in Premier League TV revenue as Villa count the cost of relegation.
