# Champions League winning coach favourite to take Villa job

Roberto Di Matteo has become the new bookmakers favourite to take over as Aston Villa boss after a splurge of bets were placed across the country.

The Italian, who led Chelsea to an FA Cup and Champions League double back in 2012 has been out of work since resigning as the manager of Bundesliga side Schalke last year, but is apparently looking to get back into management.

Nigel Pearson had been the favourite to take over the managerial role at Villa Park but a flurry of bets on Di Matteo mean he is now the favourite to be the next man on the Aston Villa hot seat.

The 45-year-old has experience of guiding a relegated Premier League team to promotion from the Championship at the first time of asking after doing exactly that with fellow Midlands-based side West Brom back in the 2009/10 season.

It’s unknown as to why so much money has been put on the Italian to take over at Villa but his appointment would be a logical one.
