# Aston Villa “sound out” Spanish coach about vacant role

Aston Villa officials have “sounded out” former Brighton and Hove Albion and Watford boss Oscar Garcia about potentially returning to England to manage their newly relegated club, according to a report from Spanish publication [Sport](https://www.sport-english.com/en/news/premier-league/aston-villa-among-clubs-interested-catalan-coach-oscar-garcia-5126183) .

Garcia is currently in charge of Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg and has guided them to a league championship win but has not guaranteed that he’ll stay to defend the title next year.

The 43-year-old, who won four La Liga titles as a player with Barcelona, has apparently been contacted by Villa to gauge his interest in a return to British football as they do their due diligence ahead of appointing the man who they hope will guide them to promotion at the first time of asking.

According to the report, Garcia also has interest from clubs in Spain, Greece and Turkey so if Villa do want him, they might have to act sooner rather than later.
