# West Brom eye up move for Aston Villa star

Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland defender Ciaran Clark is a transfer target for West Brom, according to a report in the [Express and Star](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/west-bromwich-albion-fc/2016/05/23/west-brom-eye-swoop-for-aston-villa-defender-ciaran-clark/).

The 26-year-old was actually a target for Albion last summer but he decided to extend his contract with Villa, signing a five-year extension, although, with the club now relegated to the Championship, he could decide to leave to continue playing in the top-flight especially as he has his sights set on playing regularly for his country.

According to the report, Clark’s contract with Villa contains a £5million buy-out clause.

Tony Pulis has made no secret of trying to reduce the average age of his squad and signing Clark would certainly help with that, although Villa would be keen to keep one of their best players at the club if at all possible.

The Irishman is one of very few Villa players who look to be interesting Premier League sides and he’s reportedly received offers from other clubs so Albion may have to act fast if they do intend to sign him.
