# Marseille show interest in Villa star

Idrissa Gueye is attracting interest from French Ligue 1 side Marseille as his future at Aston Villa comes into question.

[Simon Jones at Mail Online](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3607605/Idrissa-Gana-Gueye-set-snub-Marseille-Aston-Villa-midfielder-seeks-extend-stay-England.html) reports how Gueye has a minimal release clause of only £7.1-million leading to Marseille showing an interest in the former Lille man. Marseille who finished 13th this season want to rebuild this summer and they see the Senegalese international as a key target.

Despite a link with Marseille, it is said that Gana Gueye is keen to remain in the Premier League having only made the move to England’s top flight last summer.

The 26-year old was one of the brighter lights in a tough season for Aston Villa which saw them relegated from the Premier League for the first time in their history and from the top flight of English football in 28 years.

Gueye was near the top of the charts last season for tackling and interceptions but committed the most fouls out of anyone in the division last term.

He featured on 35 occasions and only missed 7% of the season through injury. It would be a huge blow if Gueye did opt to leave Villa Park.

Would Idrissa Gueye leave a big void in Villa’s midfield?
