# Dr Tony Xia confirmed as Aston Villa owner

Aston Villa have formally been taken over by Chinese businessmen Dr Tony Xia marking the end of Randy Lerner’s ownership of the Midlands side.

The takeover was announced towards the end of May, but Tony Xia took to Chinese social media site, Weibo, to confirm that he had passed all the necessary tests with the Premier League and Football League to take over as Aston Villa owner.

For Villa fans, it will mark a new era for so many who have suffered under Randy Lerner’s tenure which once promised so much. It all came to its head with relegation from the Premier League along with mass protests against the American’s ownership.

The BBC reported that it is believed the takeover will cost Xia around £75-million with new manager Roberto Di Matteo set to get £35-million to rebuild a side that is capable of mounting a serious fight to get back into England’s top division.
