Aston Villa’s appointment of new directors will have to wait a further week after the Football League chief executive had to cancel his meeting with the Midlands side proposed new directors.

Pat Murphy from the BBC reports. Shaun Harvey was set to meet with Christopher Samuelson, Keith Wyness, and Jamie Banfill on Thursday 17, June to run through necessary tests to give approval to the trio to be part of Aston Villa’s board, but he had to cancel due to business.

> Twitter: Note to @AVFCOfficial conspiracy theorists – decision on fitness of prospective directors delayed for a wk because FLge c/exec Shaun 1/2 (@patmurphybbc)

> Twitter: 2/2 Harvey called away on business y’day & couldn’t make scheduled meeting. Understand that is only reason for the delayed decision. (@patmurphybbc)

Dr Tony Xia met with Shaun Harvey earlier on this week to confirm the final details of his takeover of the Championship side and was officially confirmed by the club on Tuesday.

Chairman Steve Hollis left the club on Friday also as Xia continues to build his own board at the Villans as part of his revamp. Hollis was credited with brokering the deal to sell Aston Villa to Xia from previous owner Randy Lerner.
