# Di Matteo fires warning over discipline

Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo has fired warning signs to his squad ahead of his first season in charge at Villa Park.

Last season Villa had issues on and off the pitch with the likes of Gabriel Agbonlahor suspended on numerous occasions and Jack Grealish also having a few unfavourable run ins with the press.

Speaking at his [press conference](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11677/10316245/roberto-di-matteo-warns-aston-villla-squad-about-their-discipline) on Wednesday Di Matteo spoke about how he plans to keep his squad in line.

> We are going to have our rules, our code of conduct and if someone steps outside there are certainly going to be consequences.

> I will have discussions with all the players, not just one or two. That’s the way I manage. At the end of the day there are rules people have to obey.

Leandro Bacuna, Joleon Lescott and Micah Richards were subject to numerous taunts from fans last season including chants of them not being fit to where the shirt. Brad Guzan and Rudy Gestede also had a few run ins with the fans including after Villa’s 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup.

> I have had very difficult dressing rooms in the past and have always been able to sort them out and make them work together.

He seemed to be setting high standards in his press conference and is one known not to be messed around with despite his also friendly demeanour.
