# Villa midfielder Westwood targeted by Burnley

Newly-promoted Burnley are reportedly taking an interest in the possibility of signing Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood this summer, the [Express and Star](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/aston-villa-fc/2016/06/23/burnley-offer-aston-villas-ashley-westwood-a-premier-league-return/?) claims.

It comes as no surprise to see Westwood touted for a move away from Villa Park as he looks to play in the top flight once more and now, with Burnley coming knocking, it may be hard to keep hold of the 26-year-old.

Although the Clarets are interested in securing Westwood’s services, a potential stumbling block in negotiations to sign the Villa midfielder could come through whether or not he is willing to take a pay cut to secure a move away.

Burnley are said to be keen to not pay Westwood as much as he is earning with Aston Villa at the moment, quoted by the Express and Star as £35,000 per week.

However, Roberto Di Matteo is keen to keep his squad together beyond pre-season as he assesses his options ahead of the coming season.
