# New side emerges in race for Villa midfielder

Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye is subject to plenty of interest this summer and now another side have entered the fray to sign the Senegalese international.

[IGFM](https://www.igfm.sn/mercato-apres-lom-lol-se-manifeste-pour-le-milieu-senegalais-lyon-entre-dans-la-danse-pour-gana/), a Senegalese news outlet claim that French Ligue 1 side Lyon would be willing to meet Gueye’s £7.1 million release clause as well as match his wage demands to get the midfielder back to France.

It is reported that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has spoken with the 26 year old’s agent about making a move.

Last week Marseille reportedly activated the release clause only for a deal to fall through with Gueye not said to be keen on a move back to France as one of the main reasons, but in conflicting reports it was related to Marseille struggling to afford the move.

Gueye only signed a four year deal at Villa Park last summer from Lille but it is said that he is not keen to continue playing for Villa with the club in the Championship.
