Aston Villa followed up their disappointing loss against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Sunday, with an embarrassing 3-1 defeat away to League Two Luton Town in the EFL Cup.
Defeat to Luton means that out of Villa’s last 15 competitive matches they have drawn one and lost 14 of them.
Villa got off to a good start and were playing the ball around nicely for the first ten minutes. They were rewarded for their start when Ayew tucked the ball into the corner of the net from a relatively tight angle in the 13th minute. Villa were unlucky not to go 2 up after a very good Amavi cross was deflected onto the bar by a Luton defender.
Villa were comfortable with half an hour gone on the clock; however, things are never that simple with Villa and they allowed Luton back into the game on the 35th minute when they lost the ball cheaply in midfield. They went in at the break at 1-1.
Villa are becoming renowned for only playing one-half and they did the same again. The second half was a complete and utter shambles defensively and this was capped off by Okore poking the ball into his own net on the 67th minute.
Villa tried to get back into the game but barely had a shot in anger the whole of the second half.
Here are 5 things we learned from the game.
