# Aston Villa block exit of defender to rivals

Aston Villa will not be allowing Joe Bennett to join Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday this summer according to a report.

It was previously reported that a move to Hillsborough for Bennett was close but the [Mail Online’s Simon Jones](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3734350/Transfer-news-LIVE-Arsenal-Manchester-United-Liverpool-FC-Chelsea-latest.html) reports that a deal has now been called off by the Villans as they are not keen to see him join a divisional rival.

Bennett was said to have agreed a three year deal in Sheffield and also a medical but now seemingly he will not be going anywhere.

The 26 year old has not played for Villa in a league game in over two years and spent the past two years on loan at Brighton, Bournemouth and Sheffield Wednesday.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of Villa’s window works out with two other left backs on the books in Aly Cissokho and Jordan Amavi.

Is keeping Bennett a good move?
