# Aston Villa in talks with James Chester

Aston Villa are in advanced talks with West Bromwich Albion and Wales international defender James Chester according to a report.

The [BBC](https://twitter.com/sportbbcwm/status/763711858012553216) report that the Villans have had a bid accepted for the centre-back who only joined their local rivals last summer from Hull City.

Chester failed to nail down a regular spot in Tony Pulis’ side last season and now he is seemingly on his way to Villa Park with the Championship side in desperate need of defensive reinforcements.

The former Manchester United defender impressed hugely for Wales at Euro 2016 as his nation reached the semi finals.

Middlesbrough had been rumoured to have an interest in Chester but Villa seem to have got ahead of them for the centre half who made only 19 appearances last season.

He has a wealth of Championship experience with over 110 appearances in the second division of English football.

Roberto Di Matteo highlighted the need last night for extra fresh faces after an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Luton Town.
