# Aston Villa’s manager shortlist – who is and isn’t on it?

As Aston Villa begin yet another manager search, we are getting more information about the shortlist of candidates who they are looking at.

As reported by the [BBC’s Pat Murphy](https://twitter.com/patmurphybbc), there are plenty of people who have been linked to the job who are not actually in the club’s plans.

These are:

- Sam Allardyce
- Steve Cotterill
- Ryan Giggs
- Steve McClaren
- Gary Rowett
- Tim Sherwood

So those are the names of people who aren’t being considered, but who is actually on the ten-man shortlist?

Well, one person who is on it is Steve Clarke.

Roberto Di Matteo’s former assistant is currently in charge of the team as they prepare for next weekend’s game against Wolves and making him the permanent manager is something that Villa will consider.

Another man who is on the shortlist is Steve Bruce. There is said to be some animosity from Villa fans due to his ties with Birmingham City but Bruce’s record of getting teams promoted is unquestionable.

There are a further eight managers on the shortlist, all of whom are currently employed elsewhere, so Villa will check upon their availability and reduce the list of names down to three and at that stage, Dr Tony Xia will have his say on the preferred candidate.
